The Sam Kinsey Experience (OR ......" excuse me while I trash this guy!")

Ah yes, Sam Kinsey, a very influential guy. He was (and still is) a San Antonio promoter and booking agent. Booking agents are traditionally a necessary evil (sorta like BIG RED with a #2 dinner) .............

I remember when my brother and I were playing in the Serfs (Al Glasscock, Phil Savoy, Gary Crapster, et al), Danny was wearing a goatee. Sam insisted that my brother shave it off. Sam had a rule that prohibited facial hair. He invoked an obscure parent's committee agreement that was undoubtedly negotiated to ensure that only decent clean cut teenagers of high moral repute could pass thru the portals of THE TEEN CANTEEN......."your daughters are safe!"
He said if Danny did not shave, we could not play. Of course, the rest of the guys in the band were from the North Side, therefore by deductive reasoning, they were a bunch of p*ssies. So, they wanted Danny to shave it smooth and clean! We quit the Serfs right there on the spot! Hell, we were raised Catholic, we always wanted to martyr ourselves for a worthy cause. My mother used to have fantasies about giving herself up to the Nazis to protect me (no joke!). i went on to the Zilches and danny worked his way (eventually) into the 13th Floor Elevators and his 15 minutes of fame/shame.
